An Update on Continued Success of Writing Program Faculty and Graduates
As always, with this guest blog, Adam Till starts the term by giving you the latest news from the Writing For Film & Television Program.
2017 Writing For Film & Television Program Valedictorian Krystyna Byers has secured a position at Coverfly.com as a Story Editor. Coverfly is the industry’s largest database of screenplay contest entries and script coverage evaluations, designed to connect producers with top emerging writers. Byers is looking forward to her role, but plans to continue her regular on-set work whenever possible.
New Writing For Film & Television Program Instructor Dave McGrath’s feature Broken Mile is now available on Amazon and Hulu, after a successful theatrical run. The film will also be released in multiple international territories in the coming months. McGrath produced and acted in the acclaimed 82-minute feature, which is presented in a single, unbroken take.
2016 Grad Ari Cohen has spun his digital success into a television job. After story editing on fellow 2016 Grad Mika Rekai and Aaron Hall’s web series AntiSocial, Cohen is now writing/developing a new comedy series for producer Anie Delgado entitled Dry Time, starring Shannon Kendall and Hayley Palmaer. The series is currently at the pilot stage, though talks are underway for a multi-platform pick-up and continued production in New York City.
WFT Instructor Kyle Muir continues his employment for Ubisoft Toronto. Muir is currently hard at work on Ubisoft TO’s first original IP entitled Starlink: Battle for Atlas, due to be out this fall. Muir also remains active with his television work, including a recent stint on the reboot of the Inspector Gadget animated series for Teletoon/Netflix. Read more in this article in the Toronto Star.
2016 Grad Alex Karakatsanis is also doing well in the multi-platform realm. After starring in fellow 2016 Grad Mika Rekai’s aforementioned web series AntiSocial, Karakatsanis has written and directed his own web series entitled Thornewood Manor. Thornewood was originally developed during Karakatsanis’s days at TFS, and had its release at The Rec Room on November 26th to rave reviews.
And finally, longtime Writing For Film & Television Program Instructor Jordan Walker continues his impressive work as a Producer in the feature world. On the heels of the acclaimed How To Plan An Orgy In A Small Town, Walker has now completed his next film The Go-Getters, which will be premiering at Cinequest March 2nd with a nation-wide theatrical release this summer. Walker is already in pre-production on his next film James vs. His Future Self, written by and starring fellow WFT Instructor Jonas Chernick, to be directed by long-time creative partner Jeremy LaLonde.
